Health Care
Health care is the core reason I am running for Congress. We could insure each and every individual in the United States right now at far less cost. The numbers of Merton Bernstein from Washington University and Kenneth Thorpe from Emory University show we could save between 400 and 650 billion dollars a year of the 2.9 trillion dollars currently spent on health care.
Social Security
What has happened to Social Security solvency? The social security annual report came out this October and we are having to dip into the reserves. How can we spend a trillion dollars in Iraq and not fund the needs of our seniors today and our children tomorrow? This problem can be solved effectively and forever, it just takes courage and conviction. Our Republican legislature refused, once again, to do what was right. Send Mike Garman to Washington! There is a difference.
Education
Education and knowledge are the keys to success and the American dream. We are failing our children and our schools. We pass a law "no child left behind", which should have been the start of something special for our youth. The problem with the program was the republican majority, at that time, did not fund the program. The Republicans doomed it to failure. Vote for Mike Garman to give our children optimism, and hope, that is what quality education brings.
Jobs
Organized labor has lost millions of members over the last decade, but that is going to change. There is a resurgence in the 21st Century labor movement. Once again as in the 20th Century the working person will have a right to take a stand. Organizing is an American institutional right and we are going to give the National Labor Relations Board the teeth needed to fight unfair labor practices. American labor is the most productive in the world, but healthcare costs took away the level playing field. Wages in the 36 industrialized nations with single payer healthcare have caused an unfair advantage against Organized Labor in America. Americans take pride in their work. American know how, is why American corporations were the envy of the world. American Labor and Skilled trades are going to reinforce prosperity our fathers worked so hard for.
